The Justice Secretary has declared war on the highest-paid barristers as he released figures showing that Asil Nadir?s legal aid bill has exceeded ?1 million.
Chris Grayling asked why Government should pay legal aid fees for a Queen?s Counsel ? double those of a junior barrister. ?Of course everyone deserves a defence,? he said. ?But when you look at costs involved in some cases, you have to ask whether we can afford to provide this level of support in criminal trials.?
