We were fortunate to be upgraded on Silver Whisper to the Grand Suite, room 601, forward on the starboard side. I can only describe the suite as palatial. I could have conducted an aerobics class in the living room, which as you can see in the photos, was not only exceptionally well-appointed but also large.
My favorite place to relax was on the chaise longue that you see in the middle of the room. My daughter and I enjoyed the large-screen television, where we watched a movie with popcorn on one night.
On another evening we dined on Indian food, which we requested from our Indian butler Guresh, at the large dining table, where we also enjoyed room-service breakfast each morning when we had tours (breakfast served as a wake-up call).
The living room also features a bar, and of course, champagne, wine, spirits, soft drinks, bottled water and soft drinks were all provided, and replenished, free of charge.
The bedroom was also large and followed the curve of the ship, with two windows looking forward. If it?s fresh air and a sea breeze you?re after, there?s a long balcony off the living room.
The bedroom featured a huge walk-in wardrobe, and suite guests receive free laundry and pressing, a great perk for a long voyage. Guests who are not in the larger suites have self-service laundries or can pay to have their laundry done. I appreciate the fact that Silversea returns laundry and pressing the same day if in before 9 a.m.
When we boarded, our butler Guresh acquainted us with the room and the services he could provide ? reservations at La Terrazza, The Grill or Le Champagne; shoe-shining; delivery of afternoon canap?s ? and a lot more. Guresh not only treated us well but also saved us time. We even hosted a couple of cocktail receptions in our room, and Guresh arranged it all for us, with food and drink.
On the first day, Guresh presented us with three types of European luxury bath amenities. We were free to choose one and switch during the week if we wished.
Our suite featured two bathrooms ? a full and a half-bath. The full bath had both tub, with whirlpool, and shower, plus double vanities, toilet and bidet. In the bedroom was a make-up vanity.
I?ve stayed in all sorts of rooms on cruise ships, but Silver Whisper?s Grand Suite is the largest and grandest that I?ve experienced. This is a perfect space for those who can afford it, and for those doing the world cruise beginning in January, well, I can?t say that they will be on top of the world in the Grand Suite, but they will be on top of the sea in a palatial room traveling in Silversea style.?
