New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems?those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Raised in Australia, self-taught jewelry designer Samantha Wills began creating trinkets and gems for her friends and family and eventually expanded to the rest of the world. Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth, Drew Barrymore, Kate Hudson, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez have all been spotted rocking her creations.
Given that I have a true obsession with stationery, finding The Ink Pad has been like uncovering a hidden world that I can get lost in for hours. It's this really charming stamp and stationary store on Seventh Avenye between 12th and 13th. It is truly like a treasure hunt in there!
In an email age, I love the art of hand-making stationery, and The Ink Pad is the perfect place to find tools and inspiration. They offer classes on a variety of topics from mixed media to scrapbooking, but I prefer to just immerse myself in the store. Discovering new stationery trinkets can trigger an entire new project or jewelry collection for me. I also love to get stamps here and display them at home in glasses in my design studio.
